On this week's Episode title "Road Trip", Jane visits one of her former professors at law school and is asked to assist a student with a case. She agrees but is surprised to learn that her professor is the opposing counsel. Meanwhile, a man in a wheelchair sues after he is hit by a food truck.

The series revolves around vapid blonde and aspiring model, Deborah "Deb" Dobkins (played by Brooke D'Orsay in the pilot and in flashbacks), who is killed in a car crash. As her soul enters the gates of Heaven, she finds herself declared a "zero-zero" (meaning she has performed zero good deeds and zero bad deeds during her time on earth; she is simply shallow) by the gatekeeper, Fred. After not liking what she hears, she presses for a return to her former body, hoping to get back to Earth. Deb gets her wish (by willfully pressing a computer key she should not have), only to be brought back to life in the body of a recently deceased, brilliant, hardworking, overweight lawyer named Jane Bingum.

Initially horrified, Deb – in her new human form – discovers the meaning of inner beauty as she finds the ability to juggle legal cases, aided by her assistant Teri, while attempting to reconnect incognito with her still-grieving boyfriend, Grayson Kent, who just started working at Jane's law firm. At the same time, Deb begins to rediscover her past while learning more about her inherited body's current life, and how Jane was treated when she was alive. In addition to Fred (who was demoted to guardian angel and has been assigned to watch over her at the law firm), only Deb's long-time mortal friend Stacy knows Jane's true identity.

Drop Dead Diva is an American legal comedy-drama/fantasy television series that debuted on Lifetime on July 12, 2009. The hour-long series, which was created by Josh Berman, is produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series stars Brooke Elliott as Jane, a plus size woman whose body is inhabited by the soul of a fashion model.

This show is really endearing, it has the perfect blend of intriguing courtroom drama and big humor. It can even pull at your heartstrings. It also has big name guest stars like Rosie O'Donnell and Paula Abdul. Lifetime has renewed the show for a second season of 13 episodes, so they know they have a hit on their hands.

For now, we’ve got Jane and a show with an unbelievable amount of guest stars, from Kathy Griffin to Wanda Sykes to Liza Minnelli. And Jane has plenty of conflict in her life, with the old Jane’s past occasionally popping up and presenting new obstacles and one of the firm’s other lawyers, Kim Kaswell (Kate Levering), and Jane’s assistant, Teri Lee (Margaret Cho), in the drama mix. Plus, Jane is busy dating — numerous men, in fact. Because really, what’s not to like about her?

This is a series that scores all its wins in small touches: a dry, almost Ally McBeal-esque sense of humour, a warm and gentle sensibility, a very positive and powerful message and a fantastic cast. Of particular note are Elliott, the very dry Margaret Cho, as Jane's assistant Teri, and Ben Feldman as Fred, the angel who serves as Deb's caseworker, returning with her to Earth to serve as guardian angel to Jane.
