Previously on Saving Hope Season 1 Episode 5 "Out Of Sight", A high profile double hand replantation becomes Alex's (Durance) chance to prove to Kinney (Wendy Crewson) that she is still capable of being Chief Surgical Resident. In the ICU, Maggie (Ross) believes a homeless man may have been misdiagnosed.

On this week's Episode title "The Great Randall", When a severely injured man under the spell of hypnosis can't remember his identity, the hypnotist who put him under is called into the hospital - where he uses his psychic ability to connect Charlie and Alex.

Saving Hope is a new, hour-long original drama series that stars Erica Durance ("Smallville"), Michael Shanks ("Stargate Atlantis"), Daniel Gillies ("The Vampire Diaries"), Huse Madhavji ("Combat Hospital," "Star!," "Daily"), Julia Taylor Ross ("Rookie Blue") and Kristopher Turner ("Rookie Blue," "The Listener"). The series is from acclaimed Gemini Award-winning producers Ilana Frank and David Wellington ("The Eleventh Hour," "Would Be Kings," "Rookie Blue").

In "Saving Hope," when charismatic Chief of Surgery Charlie Harris (Shanks) at Hope-Zion Hospital ends up in a coma, he leaves the hospital in chaos - and his fiancee and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Durance), in a state of shock. Along with newly arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran (Gillies), Reid races to save Harris' life. As the action unfolds, the comatose Harris explores the hospital halls in "spirit" form, not sure if he's a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.

Charlie's spirit is now free to wander around the hospital where he routinely runs into spirits of patients who are completely dead while Alex and some other doctors, including her sexy-exie Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies), try to keep Charlie's actual body alive. None of the spirits Charlie runs into seem to mind that he's wearing a tuxedo, proving that, if nothing else, death apparently makes one indifferent to fashion. Plus, you don't have to worry about co-pays anymore.

By the second episode, Charlie's ex-wife shows up and, after an icy hug with Alex, complains that no one has considered coma arousal therapy, which involves intense sensual stimulation including giving old Charlie a helping hand, as it were. Anyway, if you're keeping score, we have Charlie in a vegetative state, his ex-wife descending on a metaphorical broomstick, while Alex is left entirely on this mortal coil to cope with Charlie's coma and the presence of her scruffy ex-boyfriend on the surgical staff. Wow. What a tinderbox of sexual tension. And that doesn't even include the young resident who insists she doesn't have a crush on Joel but would happily do him. In surgery to remove a patient's spleen, suction is called for at one point and she turns to Joel and says, "That's what SHE said."

"Saving Hope" is kind of a lukewarm stew of ideas from other shows ("Grey's Anatomy," "Touched by an Angel," the finally out of its misery "A Gifted Man") and films ("Ghost," "The Sixth Sense") with stock characters and situations that occasionally jerk a demi-tear or two, but with absolutely no authenticity. The sloppy sentimentality is cheap and unearned, greasy camera lenses notwithstanding. The flash may be willing, but the spirits are pretty weak.

"Saving Hope" is produced by Ilana C. Frank Films (ICFF) with Entertainment One (eOne), in association with CTV and NBC. The series is executive produced by Ilana Frank and David Wellington for ICFF, Noreen Halpern ("Hell on Wheels," "Call Me Fitz") and John Morayniss ("The Firm," "Haven") for Entertainment One and Lesley Harrison. Executive producers and showrunners are Morwyn Brebner ("Rookie Blue") and Aaron Martin ("Being Erica"). The series was created by Malcolm MacRury ("Crash and Burn," "Republic of Doyle") and Morwyn Brebner. David Wellington directed the pilot.

Saving Hope is a Canadian supernatural and medical drama television series starring Erica Durance, Michael Shanks and Daniel Gillies.
