    A noise complaint at an illegal warehouse party leads Andy and Swarek to an injured John Doe, a homeless squatter who has been brutally stabbed.     Previously on Rookie Blue Season 3 Episode 5 "Messy Houses", Andy's personal life turns upside-down when she answers a domestic disturbance call and the social worker on the scene turns out to be her long estranged mother, Claire, who abandoned her and her father 15 years ago. Now Andy must deal with her private issues as she works alongside her mother to investigate the secrets of a family in turmoil. Meanwhile, Sam, Nick, Chris and Gail are in a race to find the desperate mother and her two children before she makes a tragic mistake. And Detective Jerry Barber's badge may be on the line when a stash of guns he recovered ends up resurfacing on the streets.

    The series centers around a group of rookie cops. Rookie Blue is a youthful, heartfelt, one-hour, character-driven workplace drama about five rookie cops plunged into the high stakes world of big city policing - a world where even the smallest mistake can have life-or-death consequences. The series follows them just out of the police academy where they bonded together, fought together, drank together, worked together and slept together. And now they're on the job together. They're kids with guns, learning firsthand the hardest kind of policing there is. They are first responders and they are about to learn that no amount of training prepares you for life.

    Rookie Blue is a Canadian police drama television series starring Missy Peregrym and Gregory Smith. It was created by Morwyn Brebner, Tassie Cameron, and Ellen Vanstone. The police drama premiered on June 24, 2010, at 9:00 pm Eastern/8:00 pm Central, and airs simultaneously on Global in Canada and on ABC in the United States.

    On July 12, 2010, the series was picked up for a second season after only three episodes had aired. The second season of Rookie Blue premiered on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at a new time slot of 10:00 pm Eastern/9:00 pm Central on Global and ABC. The final two episodes of season two aired on September 8, 2011.

    On July 13, 2011, Global announced that the show would be picked up for a third season, only three episodes into the second season.

    The series is set in Toronto and, though similar to Flashpoint in that it does not make overt references, it does use local street names, such as King Street, and Jameson Avenue in Parkdale was the location of a call-out in the pilot episode.

    The series is produced by E1 Entertainment, Canwest, and Thump, Inc. The pilot script was written by Ilana Frank. In February 2009, Canwest ordered the show straight-to-series with a 13 episode order under the working title Copper. ABC purchased the U.S. broadcast rights to the series in April 2009.

    The first role cast was Andy McNally, portrayed by Missy Peregrym, followed by Gregory Smith cast as Dov Epstein. Additional casting was announced in early July. Production began in Toronto, Ontario on 14 July 2009, and was expected to continue through November 2009. Thirteen episodes were produced.

    On 21 June 2010 The Accessible Channel announced that Rookie Blue would be the first series to premiere with a simultaneous Described Video broadcast for people with vision impairments.

    Filming of the second season took place between 1 September 2010 and 25 January 2011. Tassie Cameron serves as head writer and the series showrunner.
